Chamber Recognizes Members Who Helped Out During Jesusita Fire |

The Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce would like to recognize the following members who graciously stepped up to help during the Jesusita fire. They donated food, water, shelter, time and energy to support those in need.
The Santa Barbara Chapter of the American Red Cross went to work quickly to serve as a resource for those displaced by the fire. They met the needs of hundreds during the incident and continue to help those who have been impacted. Dos Pueblos High School, UCSB, the Goleta Valley Community Center and Earl Warren Showgrounds served as critical resource and evacuation centers.
Bacara, Hampton Inn, Ramada Limited, Best Western Pepper Tree, Circle Bar B Ranch, Fess Parker ‘s Doubletree Resort, Canary Hotel, Hotel MarMonte, Pacifica Suites and Super 8 offered discounted rates to evacuees. El Capital Ranch took in evacuated horses. Inn of the Spanish Garden provided complimentary rooms for firefighters and offered a discount for evacuees.
The Towbes Group offered free rent until June. Dioji offered food and shelter to family pets. Best Buy set up computers and flat screen televisions at the American Red Cross shelter at Dos Pueblos. NuImage Ad Group created and donated signage. Camino Real Marketplace and Girsh Park provided space for evacuees with trailers and arranged for food and shade shelters as well.
Albertsons in Goleta made donations of drinking water, several hundred pounds of bananas, apples and oranges to the original Red Cross Shelter located at Dos Pueblos High School. Albertsons Santa Barbara donated large quantities of beef, chicken and pork as well as produce, canned goods and seasonings. Store director Stan Martinez teamed up with volunteers from the St. Vincent School and utilized their larger commercial kitchen facility to prepare and deliver hot meals to the firefighters at Earl Warren Showgrounds. Assistant store director Patrick Laughlin provided late night assistance on May 7th to help with the set up of the second Red Cross Shelter.
Jim Crook of the Santa Barbara Auto Gallery, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Hyundai volunteered the dealership's lot and facility on Hitchcock way in the Santa Barbara Auto Mall to the Cal Fire command for a refueling depot for the fire equipment as well as an inspection station for those units returning from the fire. Fire related activities at the property wrapped up this past weekend.
Santa Barbara Signs and Graphics created "Thank You Firefighters" bumper stickers, which are currently being sold to raise money for the Santa Barbara Chapter of the American Red Cross. Suggested donation is 50 cents per sticker (small version) or $5 (36” wide version).
Kristen Amyx, President and CEO of the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce said, “We are grateful for all of those companies who stepped up during the Jesusita Fire. Thanks to these local businesses, the recovery process has been eased for many community members. Please continue to show your support for the businesses that support and invest in our community!”
Amyx continued, “We would also like to show our appreciation for the firefighters and other emergency personnel who worked diligently to fight this fire. We applaud them.”
